Over the years, Shannon Lamp Service has been fortunate to receive recognition from local and regional media for our family business, custom lampshade manufacturing, lamp repair, custom lighting, and other specialty work. Family owned and operated in Lexington, Kentucky since 1955, we are proud to share some of the television features, newspaper and magazine articles, and other media coverage that have told the story of our business and the work we do.

In 2006, Shannon Lamp Service was honored to be featured on Kentucky Life, the award-winning television series produced by Kentucky Educational Television (KET). The professionally produced segment took viewers inside our Lexington shop and told the story of our family business, our custom lampshade manufacturing, and the unusual custom lamps we have created through the years.
The program followed our work from fitting a lampshade to a customer's lamp through the process of creating the finished shade, while also highlighting the craftsmanship, experience, and personal service behind our business. Originally broadcast on KET and PBS in January 2006, the Kentucky Life feature remains one of our favorite and most complete television profiles of Shannon Lamp Service.

Spirit of the Bluegrass
In 2022, veteran Kentucky journalist Marvin Bartlett featured Shannon Lamp Service on his Spirit of the Bluegrass series in celebration of our 50th anniversary of making custom lampshades in Lexington. Marvin has a remarkable talent for finding the story behind the people and places he features, and we felt that was especially evident in his story about our family business.
The feature looked beyond simply how a lampshade is made and told the story of the people, craftsmanship, and history behind more than five decades of lampshade making at Shannon Lamp Service. We were honored that Marvin chose to tell our story and especially pleased with the way he captured what our business has been about for so many years.

Green Light Bulbs for Kentucky — A Community Fundraiser During COVID-19
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear encouraged Kentuckians to display green lights at their homes and businesses as a symbol of compassion and remembrance for those who had died from the virus. Green light bulbs quickly became difficult to find, so Shannon Lamp Service located sources and began making them available to the community in exchange for donations.
The response was overwhelming. Hundreds of green bulbs were distributed throughout Central Kentucky, with customers often donating more than the requested amount. What began as a simple way for our small family business to help the community ultimately raised $5,384.38 for the Blue Grass Community Foundation's COVID-19 relief efforts.
The fundraiser received considerable attention from Lexington television and radio media, but the real credit belonged to the many people throughout our community who contributed. At a difficult and uncertain time, we were proud that something as simple as a green light bulb could help Kentuckians remember those we had lost while also helping neighbors in need.

In celebration of our 50th anniversary, Shannon Lamp Service was honored to be featured in Southern Living magazine. For a small, family-owned business in Lexington, Kentucky, being recognized by one of the South's best-known publications was a special milestone. The feature helped introduce Southern Living readers to Shannon Lamp Service and the custom lampshades, lamp repair, and specialty lighting work that have been part of our business for generations.
